Pet Day 2012

We had a wonderful day at the Waitahuna School Pet Day.  Dogs and lambs were the most popular pets with goats and a cat also on parade.  We would like to thank Sam Hislop from ANZ, Val Fox  and Sue  Homer for their expertise in the judging ring. Tom Henderson our local Vet also spoke to the children about caring for their animals and why it is important to vacinate against disease.

This year we included an 'Agri-challenge' which saw teams competing at decorating a pavlova(incuding whipping the cream with a hand beater), then constructing an electric fence to hold a lamb, shooting possums with a nerf gun and a 'fadge race' to end the challenge.  The children then had a BBQ lunch kindly provided by the PTA - with pavlova for desert.

Team work at Waitahuna

Today we had a great day of co-operative learning with the whole school.  The children first started with their 'thinking skills' they then had to work in groups to put all their information into a poster, while including all members of the group.  This is a challenging task but it was great to see the skills of team-work, inclusion, acceptance and consideration being used. Great Work and fantastic posters.
