Christmas in our Community

As a lead up to Christmas we have been talking about the true meaning of Christmas with a focus on the importance of giving to others.  The children spent Tuesday baking for the elderly in Waitahuna and also the special people who help us at school.
On Wednesday we walked to the house of some lovely Waitahuna residents to sing carols and give them some of our baking. On Thursday we travelled up to Lawrence to share some Christmas cheer.  First we visited  the Tuapeka Health Centre Rest Home to sing Christmas carols to the residents and to give out some of our Chrismas baking.  Then we walked down the road and sang some carols to a couple of elderly residents, right on their door-step!, as you can imagine they were delighted to have such a lovely visit.
This week the children have come to understand that Christmas is about giving as well as getting, and sometimes it is the simplest gift that gives the most pleasure.
