SCIENCE TOPIC: GERMINATION & GROWING
We are learning about germination at Waitahuna School. We have been planting seeds and discovering what germination means and what it looks like.
The children are learning about bike safety in preparation for our Arrowtown Camp. Please take time to view the following video with your children. (Please note lights and bells will not be required for our camp!)

The "royal cam" - a webcam trained on the nest of a five-day-old albatross chick at the Tairoa Head colony – is live.
Department of Conservation Tairoa Head ranger Lyndon Perriman said the camera would stay live for the next eight months, at which point the chick would leave its nest to leave the headland for the first time.
For the first four to six weeks of the chick's life, its parents would trade off staying at the nest with it, because the chick was too vulnerable to be left on its own, Mr Perriman said.
It was a long process getting the inaugural live camera up and running, but being able to film a chick's fledging process was a "fantastic opportunity", he said.

ANZAC DAY 2015
This week we have been remembering the soldiers who served in World War One as we commemorate 100 years since the war. The children have discussed the war and we have talked about how it affected a small town like Waitahuna. Our Roll of Honour Board holds the names of ten soldiers who died in WW1.
The children watched the short film below which let them see the war through the eyes of children.
